UNILORIN Partners US Energy Company To Build Solar Power Plant

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) is partnering with a United States (US) energy company to build a 500 megawatts solar power plant. According to the Vice-Chancellor of Unilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, who made the disclosure while speaking at the  News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  forum in Abuja on Sunday, the partnership is part of the efforts of his administration to tackle the challenge of power supply in Nigeria. He said: “The 500 megawatts is too much for the university alone to utilize; in fact, we in the university require just a maximum of four megawatts. “Which means the extra 496 megawatts would have to be given to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, either the immediate community or nationwide. I think that is what is being processed. “We have had talks with various stakeholders who are going to be party to the consumption and payment of the 496 megawatts because the project is going to cost about 1.5 billion dollars,” Ambali added. ...

President recommends expulsion for undergraduates with CGPA below 0.5

President Muhammadu Buhari has recommended that university Vice- Chancellors expel any undergraduate who carry a   Cumulative Grade Point Average   (CGPA) below 0.5. He stated this at the 31st convocation of the   University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State   (UNIPORT) held on Sunday, March 26, 2017,   The Cable News   reports. LAUTECH Semester Examination Timetable Released.

The authorities of  Ladoke Akintola University of Technology   (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho wishes to inform all students of the institution that due to the Easter holidays coming up on Friday April 14 and  Monday April 17, the Computer Based examinations slated for those two days have been rescheduled. The examinations will hold on Friday April 21 and Monday April 24, 2017. The time, venues and students’ groupings remain the same. All other examinations are to proceed as scheduled. The batch of students affected, as well as, invigilators are to take note.

Truck kills IMSU student on way to exam hall

The Imo State University community in Owerri was on Tuesday thrown into mourning when news filtered in that a final year student of the varsity on his way to the school for the ongoing first semester examination had been killed by a truck. Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the student was crushed to death by a truck with number plate, Ebonyi XD 520 AKL, at about 7.50am, at IMSU Junction, not far from the campus. It was gathered that the trailer, which was coming into town from the Okigwe-Owerri Expressway, had brakes failure and killed the student, who had allegedly jumped from a tricycle out of fear. One of the sources said, “The truck driver was shouting to alert people that the truck had brakes failure. The student, who was in a tricycle that faced the truck, jumped out, but he was eventually killed by the truck.” The spokesperson for the police in the state, Andrew Enwerem, confirmed the accident, but said he had yet to get the details. ...

CULTISTS SHOOT STUDENT IN UNICAL ‘LOVE GARDEN’

AN unidentified student was on Tuesday shot by fleeing cultists at an area designated as ‘love garden’ in the University of Calabar hostel. The shooting came on the heels of heightened cult clash between KKK and Vikings that has claimed the lives of at least 13 persons following the assassination of a lecturer in the Department of Accounting, University of Calabar, Dr. Emmanuel Igbeng. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, disclosed that the unidentified student that was shot was rescued and rushed to a hospital, adding that the victim was responding to treatment. “At UNICAL hostel, some students were shooting; they shot somebody, but the person did not die. Some of the cultists were arrested and recoveries were made in the process,” he said. The Public Relations Officer of UNICAL, Mr. Eyo Effiong, in a statement made available to Southern City News, said two out of the fleeing cultists were apprehended by the institution’s security team....

Federal College of Forestry Jericho Ibadan Matriculates 233 Freshers

The Provost, Federal College of Forestry Jericho Ibadan, Dr MORENIKE OJO has charged fresh students of the institution not to lose focus during their stay on the campus. Dr MORENIKE OJO made this known on Tuesday while speaking during the 2016/2017 matriculation ceremony of the college. The Don said the students should avoid feeling inferior to students from other schools but be of good character and ambassadors of the institution. Some of the fresh students who spoke to Acadawaka gave their reasons for picking the college as their preferred choice of institution.                                                      FORESTRY FRESHERS Our correspondent reports that Two hundred and Thirty-Three fresh students took part in matriculation ceremony held at the school’s auditorium.

JAMB EXPLAINS REASON BEHIND MOCK UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has explained why it introduced mock examination in its plan of action preparatory to the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) scheduled for May 20, 2017. The board said it was worried at the way some candidates, particularly those not conversant with computers, fail the exams, not because they were not studious enough but because they lack the basic knowledge of how the computer-based test (CBT) exam works. JAMB spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said the mock exam, though not compulsory, was meant to acquaint interested candidates with the new CBT exam adopted by JAMB a few years ago for the conduct of matriculation exams. He encouraged candidates to take advantage of the window to familiarise themselves with the workings of CBT, to avoid unnecessary mistakes during the examination, which could affect their chances of securing admission. “The board will mount a mock examinati...

UI MATRICULATES 2016/17 FRESHERS

University of Ibadan has matriculated over three thousand fresh students in the 2016/2017 session. The matriculants were seen in their Blue gowns, while some friends and family members were on hand to celebrate with their loved ones. Some of the matriculating students who spoke with Acadawaka Correspondent said they would give their best to come out in flying colours.                                          UI MATRICULANTS Some parents who also spoke with our correspondent advised their wards to be focused and adhere to the rules and regulations of the institution. The event which took place at the International Conference Centre of the campus caused a gridlock around the Ajibode area of Ibadan. We say Congratulations to the Matriculants!!!
