Important Notice To All FUNAI Prospective Candidates As a result of noticeable technical hitches encountered by some candidates in the course of registration, the Management of Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State, has extended the ongoing registration for the 2017/2018  post UTME Screening exercise  till midnight of Wednesday, 13th September, 2017. Nevertheless, examination dates remain the same. Candidates are therefore advised to print-out their registration slips from the portal to know the actual date and time of their examinations. Note that the University will not be held liable for any payment made after the close of registration on Wednesday, 13th September, 2017, as there will be no refund. Plateau State Polytechnic (PLAPOLY) female Hostel Razed

One of the female hostels at Plateau State Polytechnic (PLAPOLY), Jos campus was completely razed by fire on Monday. The fire, which started around 8.30 a.m., raged on till 11.44, throwing the entire school into confusion as students and staffers scurried to safety with some bold students making frantic but fruitless efforts to quench the inferno. It was reported that there was no loss of life in the fire incident as the fire service personnel arrived the scene around 11.20 when the hostel had been brought down. “Many students had left for lectures when the fire started; no one was around to remove anything from the burning hostel,” Yusuf Ade, a security man said. Mr Dauda Gyemang, the Rector of the institution, who described the incident as “shocking”, attributed it to a gas explosion which occurred “at about 8.30 a.m.” “We thank God that no life was lost in the inferno, but nothing was rescued,” he said. Fedpoly Bauchi ASUP embarks on indefinite strike

The Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi Chapter of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) on Tuesday embarked on an indefinite strike to press home some of their demands. Comrade Ahmed Mukaddas, Chairman of the union told newsmen in Bauchi that the decision to go on the strike was taken at the congress held on Tuesday in Bauchi. Mukaddas accused the Rector, Dr Shuiabu Musa, of non-payment of accumulated 27 months academic allowances. Others are non-implementation of the July 2014, 2015 and 2016 promotion; non-payment of enhancement arrears and arrears of short fall in their salary since 2016. The other demands include non-payment of CONTISS arrears for the lower cadre since 2013; the actual number of staff on the payroll of the institution; improved student’s welfare; unused personnel cost amounting to N24 billion between February 2017 and August 2017. Glimmer of hope as ASUU and FG reach an agreement after meeting Read

There might be some hope for Nigerian students affected by the recent ASUU strike action . Following a meeting with the federal government, the union has agreed to an audit of earlier funds . They also agreed on monthly remittances during the period of the audit The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) met with the minister of labour and employment, Senator Chris Ngige, in Abuja on August 15.  According to NAN, the meeting held at the Minister’s Conference Room, Ministry of Labour in Abuja. At the end of the meeting, they had taken significant steps toward the resolution of the issues raised by ASUU.  Mr Samuel Olowookere, the deputy director, Press, Ministry of Labour, said that during the meeting they agreed on the forensic audit of the sum of N30 billion earlier given to the ASUU in 2010. 

ASUU strike; FG begs union to call off strike

The Federal Government has appealed to the  Academic Staff Union of Universities  (ASUU) to call off its ongoing strike in the interest of Nigerians. The Minister of Labour and Employment,  Chris Ngige , made the appeal on Tuesday, August 15, in a statement released to journalists. ASUU commenced an indefinite strike on Monday over alleged FG's breach of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the 2009 FG/ASUU Agreement on financing of state universities; breach of the conditions of service; refusing to honour the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) and re-negotiation of the agreement. But Ngige blamed ASUU for not following due process before commencing on the indefinite strike. He said the Union was supposed to give the Federal Government the mandatory 15 days' notice as contained in Section 41 of Trade Disputes Act, Cap T8, 2004. UNN NASU EMBARKS ON STRIKE

Administrative activities have been paralysed  at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) following the indefinite strike declared on Monday by Joint Action Committee of Non-Teaching Staff Trade Unions (JAC) of the University. Members of the executive present when the resolution to embark on the indefinite strike was made include: SSANU Chairman, Comrade Paul Erua, NAAT Chairman Comrade Emma Mbaoji and NASU Chairman, Comrade Clifford Amoke. OSPoly Iree Management Warns Against Admission Racketeering

The Management of Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree has warned members of staff of the institution not to involve themselves in any fraudulent act in the ongoing admission process for 2017/2018 academic session. This warning is given by Registrar of the polytechnic, Barr. B.M Salawu, who declared that any member of staff discovered to have involved in the heinous act will be made to face the consequences. He stated that any candidate who is qualified and meet up with the admission requirements of the institution will be admitted on merit.
