ASUU AXE UNILORIN MEMBERS

FOLLOWING what it described as persistent violation of human and trade union rights, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has instructed its members nationwide to boycott all academic and allied activities at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State. Also the academic union barred all the university academic staff from carrying out any academic activity in any public universities in the country. This was contained in part of the resolutions reached at the end of its Awka National Executive Council meeting. In the statement which was given to newsmen in Ibadan by the Chairman University of Ibadan Chapter of the union, Dr Deji Omole, ASUU alleged that the university management and its sponsored groups were fuelling crisis by forcefully deducting check-off dues without remitting it to the national body. Federal University Lafia Sanctions Erring Staff Members

The Governing Council of Federal University Lafia (FULafia) has recently approved the termination of appointment of some members of staff and demotion of one other. According to a statement issued by the FULafia Information and Public Relations Unit, the council gave the approval when its members met to consider the report of the Staff Disciplinary Committee, which was established to look into cases of illegal employment of staff in the University. The dismissed members of staff included Taiwo Kehinde, Clement Usoro Jackson, Usman Anas and Ahmed Muhammed Abdulazeez, while Apeshi Salihu Abubakar was demoted from the rank of Administrative Assistant to Executive Officer (Administration). Abubakar was demoted for his role in facilitating illegal employment while the dismissed workers were found guilty of extortion of money to offer employment in the University. UNILORIN STUDENTS READY BROWSE!

OUR WI-FI IS BACK!!! This is to bring to the notice of the entire students that the school WiFi is back and working effectively. The students Union can categorically confirm this development as students have been able to access the WiFi. To make use of the WiFi connection, the students are strongly advised to follow the pattern of login which stipulate that the username (matriculation Number) is the same thing as the password which must all be in capital letter. i.e 12/12RE135. For cases where there is difficulties in logging in, the WiFi is opened to everyone to access. Note: Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences will not be able to access the WiFi till noon today as work is still ongoing on the connection. In case there are any issues, please don't hesitate to report so we can tell those concerned. Your welfare remains our priority and as always our determination remains unshakable. LAUTECH Resumption false alarm

The attention of the authorities of  Ladoke Akintola University of Technology  (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho has been drawn to a publication (purportedly issued from the Office of the Registrar) circulating on the social media, directing students to resume on Monday, January 9, 2017. The general public, particularly our dear students, their parents and guardians are hereby informed that the publication is false and the directive therein should be ignored. Meanwhile, the University wishes to assure all concerned that the University will reopen before the end of January, 2017, as concerted efforts, at all levels, are being made to that effect. The patience and understating exhibited hitherto by all stakeholders, especially our beloved students, are well appreciated. 700 students expelled from institution

No fewer that  700 students have been expelled  from the  Federal University of Technology, Minna in the last session for various offences. The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof.  Musbau Akanji , made the disclosure on Thursday, January 5, 2017,  The Nation  reports. He also said that 5,141 students were matriculated in the institution for the 2016/2017 academic session. While speaking with journalists after the 30th matriculation ceremony of the university, Akanji revealed that most of the students were expelled due to their low academic performance. He also said that the students scored below 1.5 pass mark “At the end of the 2015/2016 academic session, the university expelled about 700 students for various offences, majority of them are due to low academic performance.
