UI PROTEST ; UI VC ORDERS STUDENTS OUT OF HOSTEL,UNDERGRADUATE EXAM POSTPONED TILL 17TH JULY

Undergraduate students of the University Ibadan have been told to go on mid-semester break after they staged a peaceful protest on Monday at the school premises.                                   Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor IDOWU OLAYINKA made the announcement on Monday during a live broadcast on the institution’s outfit, Diamond FM, amid the protest embarked upon by the undergraduate students. There had been complaints from the students about poor welfare condition on the campus ahead of their forth coming exams which prompted the protest. Meanwhile Professor OLAYINKA also announced that the forth coming exam for Undergraduates has been postponed till July 17, while postgraduate students are to continue with their lectures. Federal College of Agriculture, Moore Plantation Ibadan Matriculates Over Five Hundred Fresh Students

Over five hundred fresh students on Tuesday took oath of allegiance as bonafide students of Federal College of Agriculture, Moore Plantation Ibadan during the 2016/2017 matriculation ceremony held at the school`s main hall . Charging the matriculants , the Executive Provost of the institution Dr BABAJIDE ADELEKAN said the students must shun every vices that can distract them  From their primary assignment  on the campus. LAUTECH students lock out UTME candidates

Students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology ( LAUTECH), Ogbomosho  on Monday  morning shut the gates of the institution against UTME candidates scheduled to write their examination during the week. The gates were locked after students leaders held a congress by 5am and resolved that the school will be lock-down  and no Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination will hold until their demands are met. The demands include, a comprehensive academic calendar, commencement of lectures and a permanent resolution of the crisis in the institution. Unless the demands are met, the student leaders said t hey will continue to protest and ensure a total shutdown of the institution. The student leaders said the aim of the development  was to get the attention of the federal government on the plight of the institution.

Student in prison for stealing phone

A Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday in Abuja sentenced a student, David Out, 20, to three weeks imprisonment for stealing a phone. The Magistrate, Mr Mohammed Tahir, sentenced Otu after he pleaded guilty. The convict was however, given an option to pay a fine of N15, 000. Tahir said that the punishment was to make Otu to change his life of crime. Otu, a student of Dutse-Jabu Village in the FCT, was convicted on a charge of stealing. Earlier, the Prosecutor, Mr Otu Urom, said that one Mrs Kenechukwu Keneth of Anchor Estate on Airport Road reported the mater at the Wuse Police Station on April 30. He said that the convict entered All Saint’s Church at Wuse Zone 5, pretending to have come for devotion only to steal a phone. Urom said that the convict during a prayer session removed the complainant’s phone, valued at N285, 000 from her bag and vanished. Top 10 States With Highest Number Of Registered UTME Candidates 2017

The Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has stated that the exam body registered a record 1,736,571 candidates for 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). According to Oloyede, who made this known on Tuesday while briefing newsmen on the preparations for the conduct of the examination scheduled to commence this Saturday, said the number of registered candidates for the 2017  UTME rose by 464,287 compared with the 2016 figure of 1,272,284 candidates. The registrar said that Imo state had the highest applications with 101,868 candidates, followed by Osun state with 88,655; Oyo state came third with 87,811 and Ogun followed in fourth with 81, 349 candidates. Others are Delta state with 81,108; Anambra with 77,253; Kaduna, 72,104; Kano, 70,276; Kogi, 70,150 and Benue state in tenth position with 68,916 registered candidates. UNILORIN spent N30m on electricity – VC

Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin, on Tuesday said the university spent over N30 million on electricity in March. Ambali disclosed this in Ilorin when he received members of the newly inaugurated Executive Council of the Postgraduate Students Association (POGSASS), in his office. He informed the POGSASS executives that the university had invested heavily on power supply because it was critical to research works. Ambali said that the university was collaborating with a U.S. company to build a 500MW solar energy plant as part of efforts to tackle the challenge of power supply plaguing the country. He therefore urged the post-graduate students of the institution to focus on quality research, especially on electricity. Ogunmodede emerges new OAU VC

Prof. Eyitope Ogungbenro Ogunmodede has emerged the Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ife, Osun State. The Chairman of the institution Governing Council, Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi, made the announcement on Monday. 21 applications were screened for the position. Born on January 23, 1957 in Owo, Ondo State, Ogunmodede is a Professor of Dentistry and former Dean of Faculty, College of Health Science, at the institution. Prof. Ogunmodede, who spoke with journalists after he was announced as the new vice chancellor of OAU, solicited the support of staff and pledged total commitment, determination, hard work, quick consultative decisions, direction, impartiality and conscious enhancement of team approach.

SSANU expels 13 members from UNIUYO

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has announced the expulsion 13 of its members in the University of Uyo chapter for allegedly contravening the association’s constitution. The National President, Mr Samson Ugwoke, disclosed this to journalists on the sideline of the 57th quarterly zonal meeting of SSANU western zone held at the Lagos State University (LASU). Ugwoke said the expulsion took effect from May 2. According to him, the members were expelled for disrespecting the association’s constitution and for giving the school authorities of the university false information about SSANU. According to him, the expelled members gave the university authority false information, which led to the association being denied permission  to hold its election in Uyo.
