#Savemapoly ; Mapoly students protest on socila media over schools` closure
Students of
Moshood Abiola Polytechnic MAPOLY have taken the protests against the closure of their
school to social media after the citadel of learning has been shut for the past few weeks.
The students who register their displeasure about the conflict between the state
Governor, Ibikunle Amosu and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic
(ASUP) took to social media with #Savemapoly to express concern over
continued closure of their school.
There has been a lingering disagreement
between the government and the lecturers over the conversion of MAPOLY to a University of
Science and Technology, while another state-controlled polytechnic, Ogun State
Polytechnic will be established in Ipokia area of the state.
The Governor
thereafter announced that MAPOLY will cease to exist by
2021 and the state will only have MAUSTECH and Ogun Poly.
The disagreement that ensued over the
decision on the establishment of a new polytechnic and conversion of MAPOLY to
a university has prompted the lecturers to embark on an
indefinite strike even before ASUP declared a nationwide
industrial action.
Students have
however taken their protest to Twitter to kick against the closure of their
school.

Earlier in October, the students who were
about to write their examinations before ASUP went on strike took to the street
of Abeokuta, Ogun state capital and marched down to the governor's office at
Oke Mosan to express their grievances, but nothing was done to solve the
problem.
MAPOLY students have however been sitting at
home for over two months waiting for the ASUP and government to call of the
strike.
