ASUU PLANS CODE OF CONDUCT FOR MEMBERS

The Academic Staff Union of Universities is planning a code of conduct for its members that will participate in subsequent elections in Nigeria, the union’s President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, has stated.
He said the code will guide its members participation in the November 16 governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi states and the 2023 general elections.
“Before such subsequent elections happen, we must be clear with the rules of engagement with INEC. I am saying that for now, we have not obtained the clearance from our National Executive Council that ASUU can participate. But if it happens that our NEC approves our participation in those (subsequent) elections, the conditions will be well spelt out.
“We will have to give INEC some conditions, it is when we agree on the rules of engagement that we can come back to package and reengineer our code of conduct for our members who will be participating in these elections at our behest,” the ASUU President said.
