Industrial Court reinstates sacked UNIBEN staff

The National Industrial Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital has ordered the authority of University of Benin (UNIBEN) to reinstate its Deputy Director of ICT Department for unlawful dismissal from the university’s service in 2013. The University’s director, Kehinde Samuel, a claimant, approached the court on October 9, 2013 over his wrongful dismissal by the Governing Council of the university on July 18, 2013 without any substantive offence committed. Justice Oyebiola Oyewumi in her ruling said the dismissal of the claimant from his employment was unlawful and of no effect. Oyewumi said the purported dismissal was contrary to the rules of Natural Justice and the Laws and Regulations regarding the nature, tenure and discipline of senior staff of the university. Ekiti students union greets Fayemi,as he returns to Governor`s Office

The Leadership of the Federation of Ekiti State Students’ Union has congratulated the governor of Ekiti State, Dr Fayemi Kayode on his swearing-in. The Governor was congratulated in a letter signed by its National President, Akomolafe Hide Petkoff aka Aare of Peace alongside other executives. “The National leadership of the above named Union wish to expressively register our warm congratulations on the inauguration ceremony of His Excellency, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi given the victory recorded at Ekiti 2018 gubernatorial poll held on July 23rd, 2018.   “ It’s is our utmost belief that our dear state shall witness advanced developments during your governance. “Also, we are not oblivious of the ardent zeal of His Excellency; Dr. John Kayode Fayemi towards students’ constituency.  We believe the incoming Governor of our state will continue to extend his hand of an all-inclusive government towards the entire Ekiti students’ populace.” Congrats Mr Governor!

ONLY LAUTECH`S GOVERNING COUNCIL CAN INCREASE STUDENT’S TUITION FEES; OYO GOVERNMENT

Oyo state government has said only the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology governing council has the right to increase student’s tuition fees. In an interview with journalists on Thursday Commissioner for information, Culture and Tourism, TOYE ARULOGUN said the governing council must have critically looked at the situation before such a decision was taken. The Commissioner said it is important for the governing council to dialogue with the student body                                               Meanwhile, lamenting over failure of government officials to address the protesting students, Chairman, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Oyo state chapter, BABATUNDE ALIU stressed that the students will reconvene for another protest when the seven-day ultimatum handed the state government lapses.                                               

ANIMAL SCIENCE ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (ASAN) SHARES FREE EGG ON 9IJA CAMPUS

#worldeggday2018 Animal Science Association of Nigeria (ASAN) has  staged a sensitisation  campaign to mark the World Egg Day. The campaign is to inform Nigerians the importance of egg consumption in the body.      The awareness exercise which is the First of its kind on the Federal college of Agriculture FCA Moore Plantation Apata Ibadan campus saw students and and staff of the institution troop out en-mass to celebrate the day . Our correspondent Damilola Olabode reports that  Provost of the College  Dr Babajide Adelekan also joined the train  , as ASAN went round to distribute eggs to people on the campus .  'hmmmm where is our egg ?

RUFUS GIWA POLYTECHNIC GETS NEW SUG EXECUTIVES

Blessing Akeju has emerged president Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO) Ondo State`s Students Union Government (SUG) for 2017/2018 academic session , succeeding Temitayo Ayejuyo whose tenure ended last session. Blessing emerged victorious with 375 votes, beating three other contestants. However over 100 students from different departments were also elected into the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), the union’s legislative arm, being led by Oluwafemi Omogunwa – the Senate President. The rector, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo Ondo state Mr IDOWU OLOGUNAGBA, said the union leaders emerged under free and fair atmosphere, urging them to close ranks and work for the school’s progress. Ologunagba, while congratulating the union officials, urged them to put the welfare of students above personal gains. He charged them to be proactive and show patriotism in the discharge of their duties.

UNIVERSITY DON CHARGES NIGERIAN YOUTHS TO BE INTERESTED IN POLITICS

Professor Lai Olurode of the Sociology department, University of Lagos (LASU), has urged students to gear up for leadership positions. Professor Olurode made this know while speaking at the 2018 Annual Conference of Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit, at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka urging the students to show more interest in governance. Olurode, who is also the Chairman of UNILAG Muslim Community, urged political parties to make the  NotTooYoungToRun  drive effective in the upcoming general election. He said: “Governance has nothing to do with age, everybody should aspire to it. Report reaching us says  Under Fire Gay lecturer of the Federal College of Agriculture FCA Moore Plantation Ibadan , Engineer Femi Aremu was on Monday  September 3, 2018 chased out of his office . The Don who is currently facing investigation of alleged male Sexual Harassment and  Extortion of students of the institution was reported to have opened his office and spotted by some members of the Student Union Government  SUG . According to report by our correspondent the SUG members however sent Engineer Aremu out of his office. Pandemonium at Apete Area of Ibadan resurfaced on The Polytechnic Ibadan campus on Tuesday morning as students struggled to escape for their dear lives. According to report the Fracas which halted the academic activities on the campus was due to clash between some Cult members on Monday Night at the Apete axis of the  community,which claimed a life.  Acadawaka Correspondent JAMES ODEDIRAN while speaking from the campus reported that security officials are already on ground to bring normalcy on the institution. POLYTECHNIC IBADAN SSANIP JOINS NASU FOR ONGOING STRIKE

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP), the Polytechnic, Ibadan chapter has joined the Non Academic Staff Union of the institution in the ongoing strike to protest the poor welfare of workers. SANNIP Chairman at the institution, Mr AKINOLA GBENGA, confirmed this during an interview with Acadawaka Correspondent, JAMES ODEDIRAN. He however noted that the Academic Staff Union of the institution will not be part of the strike as it has a case in court. Recall that the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the Polytechnic, Ibadan, commenced an industrial action earlier this month over their eight months unpaid arrears by the Oyo State government. ALLEGED GAY LECTURER COLLAPSES DURING INVESTIGATION

A Male lecturer of the Federal College of Agriculture Moore Plantation Apata Ibadan, Engineer David Aremu has been placed on admission at the University Teaching Hospital #Uch Ibadan after he collapsed before an investigation on Thursday evening.  Engineer Aremu was last week Saturday exposed by some students of the institution on a Yoruba Radio program in Ibadan about his Sexual harassment act on male students and extortion of other students thereby threatening of failing them.  The School's management on Monday however released a statement of not being aware of the lecturer’s atrocities, but promised to set up a panel to investigate on the matter.  The panel continues its investigation this Monday. ONDO POLY WORKERS THREATEN STRIKE ACTION

Staff of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo, Ondo State,   are threatening to go on strike after being owed nine months salary. The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) said its members could no longer work under the present condition, asking state Governor ROTIMI AKEREDOLU to come to their rescue. ASUP Chairman Comrade RAFIU IJAWOYE in an interview with news men revealed that the academic staff members of the institution had been going to classrooms on empty stomachs and deploring   a June 28 memo issued by management,  apologising for the delay in the payment of June salaries. He also condemned a statement credited to the Governing Council Chairman, Mr Banji Alabi,  that all workers’ salaries had been paid up to May 2018. Ijawoye said the union would meet to discuss the next line of action if the school failed to pay them.

IDAHOSA VARSITY PRODUCES 49 FIRST CLASS GRADUATES

Six Hundred and Two (632) students have graduated from Benson Idahosa University Benin city, Edo state with Forty nine of them bagging a First Class degree. Vice Chancellor of the institution , Prof .SAM   GUOBADIA while speaking during the 14 th convocation ceremony of the school revealed that out the Eighty Four   (84 )Students   graduated with Second Class (Upper Division) , Three Hundred and Eighteen (318 )second class ( Lower Division), while Fifty Two (52) students bagged a third class   degree . The institution also conferred 60 masters degree, 38 post-Graduate and 1 Doctorate degrees honours on some of the grandaunts.

Report says a 200- level female student of Usman Danfodiyo University Sokoto disrupted Mathematics lecture after a strange display of action.   According to report, the undergraduate lady was said to have been possessed by evil spirit with her strange behaviour The scary display at the PTF Lecture Hall of the campus according to information saw some of her colleagues round her up, while some students were reciting Arabic Verses instead of taking her to the school clinic as she later regained consciousness. Varsities In Ogun state Set For Post-UTME Screening

Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye and Tai Solarin University of Education  (TASUED), Ijagun in Ogun State have all fixed dates for the screening exercise for candidates to be admitted for 2018/2019 academic year. According to reports , the OOU screening will hold from Monday 30th July to Friday 3rd August, 2018 while that of TASUED is fixed for 24th July, 2018. GOVERNOR UDOM EMMANUEL COMMISSIONS UNIUYO ARTS GALLERY

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has commissioned an arts gallery in the University of Uyo ( UNIUYO ) in honour of his mother in-law, Late Professor (Mrs.) Stella Idiong. Late Mrs. Idiong was the first female professor of Fine and Industrial Arts in the country, hence the building of the arts gallery by her family to   showcase her works. The gallery was built ten years after her death as a memorial, to also showcase her works and promote art in the institution. Speaking at the Main campus of the University, Governor Emmanuel commended the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Enefiok Essien for allowing the sponsors of the gallery build the arts center in the school.

UNILORIN BANS FEMALE STUDENTS WITH HAIR ATTACHMENT

The  University of Ilorin , UNILORIN has banned its female students from wearing hair attachment and all forms of colourful hair extensions. In a statement released on Monday, January 22, the university management stated that every female student must comply with the university dress code as dressing decently according to the management is a reflection of individual character and personality. Unilorin Dress Code However, information gathered from the university website about dress code confirms the ban on hair attachment, trousers, and clothing for both male and female students.
